5 Things That Will Change Your Life and Living the Life You Deserve
Want a better life? Do you want to start living instead of surviving? Care to build a life of your dreams instead of dreaming about living a life?
ME TOO!!!
“Man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not life in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die and then dies having never really lived.”
How true, yet how sad, is that statement in your life? That isn’t a judgment, I’m as guilty, or more, than most. I, like most people, am conflicted between knowing what I should do and what I need to do. Family is more important than work yet without working there is no way to support a family. It’s a conundrum to be sure and something we all struggle with. It’s an underlying theme in all my novels. A connective tissue that links them all together: the struggles of responsibilities that keep us from living a full and happy life.
The advantage of getting older, I am no longer in my twenties folks, is the ability to look back and see my mistakes. These books would have helped me greatly back then and still might today. I hope you find them helpful as well:
1: SMAFU: Situation Married All Fucked Up – EM Bosso
Yes, I am suggesting my own book (which is free simply by joining my mailing list) but I’m not the only one to do so. Hopefully the words and wisdom of the marvelous old lady Cherisse will inspire you as it has so many other readers to live, listen, learn, and love.
2: The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything – Sir Ken Robinson
Sir Ken believes in possibilities. His groundbreaking work on the educational system in the UK and his involvement in the peace process in Northern Ireland have left an indelible mark on society and his wisdom and inspiration is expressed beautifully through stories of people (e.g., Sir Paul McCartney, Matt Groening, and Chuck Close) who overcame great odds to find their Elements and make tremendous impacts on society.
3: The Four Hour Work Week – Tim Ferriss
This one is fun and not everything will apply. Still I think it would have been good information just to be able to look at things from a different perspective. Here is Mr. Ferriss’ description of his own book.
Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan–there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, or earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, The 4-Hour Workweek is the blueprint.
This step-by-step guide to luxury lifestyle design teaches:
• How Tim went from $40,000 per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per month and 4 hours per week
• How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want
• How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs
• How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist
• How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent “mini-retirements”
The new expanded edition of Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Workweek includes:
• More than 50 practical tips and case studies from readers (including families) who have doubled income, overcome common sticking points, and reinvented themselves using the original book as a starting point
• Real-world templates you can copy for eliminating e-mail, negotiating with bosses and clients, or getting a private chef for less than $8 a meal
• How Lifestyle Design principles can be suited to unpredictable economic times
• The latest tools and tricks, as well as high-tech shortcuts, for living like a diplomat or millionaire without being either
4: The One Thing – Gary Keller
How could I not include this one?
The ONE Thing has made more than 400 appearances on national bestseller lists, including #1 Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and USA Today. It won 12 book awards, has been translated into 30 languages, chosen as one of the Top 5 Business Books of 2013 by Hudson’s Booksellers and one of Top 30 Business Books of 2013 by Executive Book Summaries. Voted one of Top 100 Business Books of All Time on Goodreads. People are using this simple, powerful concept to focus on what matters most in their personal and work lives. Companies are helping their employees be more productive with study groups, training, and coaching. Sales teams are boosting sales. Churches are conducting classes and recommending for their members. By focusing their energy on one thing at a time people are living more rewarding lives by building their careers, strengthening their finances, losing weight and getting in shape, deepening their faith, and nurturing stronger marriages and personal relationships.
5: Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny! – Tony Robbins
Finally, my personal favorite. So many things in life we set aside, think we can’t change, avoid because it’s uncomfortable. Tony Robbins dispels a lot of those myths in what I consider to be his most important work.
Wake up and take control of your life! From the bestselling author of Inner Strength, Unlimited Power, and MONEY Master the Game, Anthony Robbins, the nation’s leader in the science of peak performance, shows you his most effective strategies and techniques for mastering your emotions, your body, your relationships, your finances, and your life.
As always… Peace Y’all. 😊
