My Only Political Post This Election Season: It Doesn’t Matter
During this election season, let us all remember Game Theory for a moment. Your guy or gal has the greatest chance of victory, and therefore megalomaniac power, by separating the Nation and catering to individual groups with the age old strategy of “You deserve this, and we will have the rest of the country pay for it.”
There is an age old axiom that everyone should take to heart, “The person that wants that job, is the last person that should have it.”
What have politicians (both parties) done in the last thirty years and 19.4 Trillion dollars in debt they have created? There are still homeless camps in every major metropolitan city. There are still people shooting each other in the streets. There are still women and children being raped and abused on a daily basis. And there as still wealthy people getting richer every day while the middle class vanishes into the abyss of, “Do you remember when”. Yet if you look at the balance sheets of the politicians that have retired, they themselves have done quite well in retirement as have their “friends”‘.
I repeat, “The person that wants that job, is the last person that should have it.”
So when you vote this November, remember you are not the constituent the candidate cares about unless you are one of the fortunate 1%. Your favorite celebrity certainly has a right to express their opinion, but their interests are not necessarily yours. Their lives are absolutely nothing like the day to day activities you experience unless you too fly in a private jet and vacation on the French Riviera to unwind.
At the end of the day, you are simply one more number in the tally towards their march towards power and fame. If “Your” candidate wins, perhaps you’ll receive a “Thanks for your support” letter with an enclosed envelope asking for another donation. Won’t that be heartwarming?
One last time, “The person that wants that job, is the last person that should have it.”
Might I suggest you save your fervent support and money, for those at a grassroots level that are making actual changes that matter. Find a charity that is doing the work you actually care about, the Democratic or Republican National Parties already have enough money, and donate there. Better yet… donate your time and energy. Make a difference in someone’s life. Take the sign out of your yard and the bumper sticker off of your car and replace them with peace signs or “do no harm stickers”. Save your angry social media posts and spend that time getting to know someone from a foreign country on the multitude of international online groups that live on Facebook. Learn about their kids, their hopes, their dreams. Let the politicians tell you entire countries are evil as you discover that the people living there have the same love for their families, the same struggles of living, the same desire to be happy as you and your family.
If history shows us anything, waiting for a politician to make actual change is nothing but unfulfilled rhetoric. So quit waiting for them to make the world a better, safer place and start doing it yourself one small gesture at a time.
Unrelated Side Note:
I’ve been told many times that I’m supposed to put a “call to action” on every post and frankly I’m not very good at that. Call me a poor marketer or just a writer that wants to write good books in the hopes of people want to read them. So if you are so inclined… here are my Amazon Author pages, please feel free to purchase a book or two. 🙂
