FBOM and The Dangers of Gaslighting
I am thrilled to say FBOM is making waves in both advanced reader reviews and in the pre-order system on Amazon (available for pre-order to be released on September 11, 2016). The year of research, although frequently heartbreaking and emotionally painful, seems to have come through in the final execution. (Goodreads reviews!)
Although the novel is fiction, many of the scenes and scenarios are based on true stories, true situations and honest emotion. My hope, as for all of my writing, is to shed light upon a societal problem and maybe… just maybe… help someone in need.
Whereas SMAFU (Situation Married All Fucked Up) was written in a romantic, lighthearted manner but had the underlying message of hope and understanding for troubled marriages, FBOM deals with the aftermath of a much more serious issue in our times.
The ability of man to rape, abuse or torture another human being has always been difficult to comprehend for the majority of decent people in the world, yet it has been happening since life arrived on the planet. The percentage of men willing to admit that they would rape a woman, if they knew they could get away with it is truly terrifying. Is it an issue of upbringing, or genetics or is it lack of education and understanding of what rape really is?
FBOM is my attempt to bring some of the real emotions and feelings around this issue to the forefront. If FBOM helps even one person avoid or resolve torment and a lifetime of emotional stress and denial, then I deem it worthy of the effort to bring it to publication.
One regret: I was unable to bring the issue of Gaslighting into this first novel. If you are unaware of the term, you should know that it is the single most common form of abuse in society today. Although it is not necessarily rape of the body, it is a complete and total rape of the mind. It distorts realities, isolates the victim and leaves them unable to function. It frequently ends in suicide or mental collapse. I am not an expert on this issue so I will include some valuable links at the end of this article. I hope you find the time to read them–as statistically you, or someone you know is a victim of it and may need assistance to escape from such abuse before it is too late. If you are able, please share this article. It is not my current intent to address this subject in a future novel–but who knows? At the moment, I am not an expert on the subject, but perhaps if my readers care to share their stories with me, and they feel there is a need, I will work to build a thrilling story as a standalone novel or as part of the Eyes of Justice Series.
Just think, you may be helping one person that you didn’t even know was in trouble. You may save a life, or turn around someone’s future. For me… there’s no greater accomplishment in life, I hope you feel the same.
